Portugal’s MDOC to screen Iran’s ‘Makeup Artist’

Iranian ‘Makeup Artist’ is to be screened at the Melgaço Int’l Documentary Film Festival in Portugal.

Iranian short doc ‘Makeup Artist’ has been slated to be screened at the MDOC - Melgaço International Documentary Film Festival in Portugal.

Directed by Jafar Najafi, the documentary is about Mina, a makeup artist who is determined to realize her dreams.

She, not only refuses to succumb to her husband and mother-in-law’s fierce opposition but also paves her own path and pushes forward along it.

Gradually, it looks as if the people and world around her are starting to change.

The doc has gone on screen at some global events, including the Millennium International Documentary Film Festival in Belgium, the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival in Japan, where it won an Award of Excellence, and the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in the Netherlands, where it received the FIPRESCI Award.

The 2022 edition of the MDOC - Melgaço International Documentary Film Festival will take place on August 1-7, screening dozens of movies from across the world.

The festival aims to promote and disseminate ethnographic and social cinema, looking for films that demonstrate the author’s point of view on social, individual and cultural issues related to identity, memory and borders.
